It’s enabled by default on all fresh Windows 10 installations, but it’s easy to turn off. On desktop and laptop PCs, probably not so much. If you’re using a Windows 10 phone or tablet, you might find Autocorrect handy. It can even interfere with other spellchecker apps or services you might have installed, such as Spell Check Anywhere or Grammarly. Autocorrect doesn’t work on most traditional desktop apps at all. It’s up to app developers whether they want to use the Windows Spell Checking API or not. It works in some universal apps (especially built-in apps like Edge and popular apps like Facebook), but not in others. The trouble is, Autocorrect’s usefulness in Windows 10 really depends on what kind of device you’re using. Though it sometimes claims to be a system-wide feature, Windows 10’s Autocorrect doesn’t show up everywhere. In Windows 10, it works much the same as on other platforms, automatically replacing misspelled words if they are in the dictionary and applying a red underline if the word isn’t found at all. Click the “OK” button to head back to your Word document to make sure the autocorrect entry is no longer valid.Autocorrect is kind of a love/hate thing no matter what platform you use it on. Repeat these steps for each entry you’d like to delete. When you right-click in a spelling error that has one or more spelling suggestions, you will find a menu named Add to AutoCorrect the AutoCorrect Options command is found in that menu. In Word 2016, Word 2019, and Word 2021, the AutoCorrect Options command has been added back almost as in Word 2010 and earlier versions. The autocorrect entries are listed in alphabetical order. Once there, scroll through the list of entries and select the one you want to delete. Head back to the “AutoCorrect” window by selecting File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options. Now, when you type the word or phrase in your document, autocorrect will take over.ĭeleting autocorrect entries is just as simple as adding them. Repeat these steps for as many words as you’d like to add and then click the “OK” button when you’re done. In the “With” box, enter the replacement word or phrase. Now, in the “Replace” box, enter the word or phrase you’d like to replace.
